Deadly Graphics is a Wolverhampton based graphic design company, I was approached by the company after being referred by Mayman Designs. I have personalised a shop and added the current features: Up datable area's with a user friendly interface to update the information, a RSS feed which is linked to the information updated in the up datable sections of the website.

Deadly Graphics contacted me after a recommendation from Mayman Designs. The company wanted someone that could create or code an existing open source shop and set it up for their customer. Deadly Graphics also required a separate section which allowed the customer to update three different sections of the website and also have this update an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed.

I used a open source software called Prestashop, which i then uploaded and integrated into the rest of the website. I had to add my own code to the CMS of the shop to allow the customer to update the sections that were required. This project was mainly using PHP, Mysql and HTML.

The company the customer owned is called Music Hilites they sell unsigned bands CD’s and also are hair stylists, this project is still being styled Deadly Graphics.

I will be working with Deadly Graphics again shortly on a few new projects..

Mayman Designs is a Wolverhampton based webdesign company, i have been doing some work experience at this company helping to create php forms and also a rating system.

I attended the 2009 Graduation Degree show, while i was there i was introduced to Thomas Mayman, he took my details and website address. After a week we was in communication about myself attending Pretty Vacant for some work experience. In the last few months i have created a quotation system for a local company called Epic Conservatories, the system had to be totally created using php only.

I have also been working to try and create a star rating system for enough company called Pretty Vacant, this has been an unsuccessful. The issue that caused all the star rating systems i had created and also commercial ones i had tried to use, not to work was a plugin being used within the WordPress CMS. The plugin was called User Community this plugin allows the website to run separate profiles for each user similar to Facebook but for artist biography and artwork to be displayed. But this plugin also did not allow simple php being used within its files.

The work i have done so far is good experience and has given me an insight into the what a real company is like and what the customer wants. I look forward to future jobs being put forward to myself by Mayman Designs.

This program was one of my favourite interactive artefacts that i have built this year, it involved a subject i am interested in as well being fun to create. The topic of the program was crime scene investigation and i tried to approach it as close to the real world procedure as possible with the restrants of the software.

The program involved how to collect a sample from a puddle of blood and also collect a sample from non visible blood splatter. Most of the program is video and drag and drop, this was the best way to get the program to look the way that it should.

I enjoyed filming and creating this artefact all the special effects and props were created by myself including the blood.

This module was to teach us how to produce a short advert for our course and then to implement it into a web page. I designed my video around the current course that i am attending, i tried to show all aspects of what i see as the audience would want to know. I showed many clips of how the course is taught and the facilities available to students, this i thought was very important to the be viewed and advertised.

Sambraros was a Mexican style restaurant that was designed as part of an assignment for my second year assignment. The focus of the module was PHP, MYSQL and database access and usage. I designed and created a database driven website that included a administrator area and user area.

Sambraros was designed around an Mexican themed restaurant, the purpose of the module was to learn PHP, MYSQL and have a database driven website. The use of PHP makes many features possible for my restaurant design, administration area this area allowed the user to add to the menu, delete and edit from the menu. Also it allowed bookings of all users to be viewed. The normal website visitors also had a user area which allowed them to add, delete a booking at the restaurant.

Sunday

This project was for a module called Narrative Forms run by Denise Doyle, the module learnt us about Narratives in all shapes and sizes. I had to create a prototype of a product that needed to involve a narrative of some description. For my project i chose to make a program that was similar to Soft Cinema (2002) which was a project created by Lev Manovich. The program had 9 different videos and 9 music samples, the theme of the video is a typical Sunday in the life of Thomas Bangham. This clips could be placed in any order by the user to tell the story in a non linear way, during the clips the music was played at random. Due to the lack of time i was not able to make the sound play depending on the theme of the clip which is what i really wanted to do. Due to the restriction Director MX has with the usage of video it made this very diffucult to make and work the way that i hoped it would.

This second year project was to create a game using Director MX and a programming code called Lingo. This was the first time using advance Lingo to make anything, the target audience was 17-18. The program was a bit of a joke look at university students trying to escape university, to go to the pub.

University Escape

This project was a second year assignment it involved a high usage of Lingo code and Director MX. The assignement was to modify and change the concept of a mini game that involves chickens getting from A to B without touching the walls, if you did you died.

When i came to design my game, i decided to change the story and make it about university students trying to escape university. This was my first attempt at making a game using director and lingo, i believe i added a lot of features for my knowledge of the programming lanuage.

The game contained a scoring system, life system, task completition before proceding to next level. The characters and the level were all designed from scratch and the university characters were made to look less human than the staff so it is easy to tell the good characters from the bad.

Virtual Safety World was a project aimed at children to try and teach them road safety, i chose to put my users in the driver seat of a car to experience what it is like for people that drive to have pedestrians that do not understand or follow road safety.
VS World

This project was aimed at children to learn them about Road Safety, this was a diffucult task to complete due to keeping the product intresting enough to be played and watched all the way through. I put a lot of thought into the interface for this program and settled on using the Nintendo Wii controller, this allowed for wireless use and also it is a fun way to keep children intrested in the program. The purpose of the whole program was to put the user behind a steering wheel and give them the experiance a driver would have, which included the way road safety is ignored by most people. This program displayed in the video was just a prototype of a seaction of the program to test whether the interface controller was easy to use by the users of the program.

Festival Interview

This year one module was designed to teach me the basics of recording sound, i was asked to create a recording of an interview with a stranger and to create a theme within the recording. After a lot of thought on the subject i decided to make the subject of my interview on festivals that my subject may of been too.

Within the recording i created all the sound effects of the me walking through grass and mud to get to the camp site of my subject which was located in a field. The interview took place in a tent which i had to record all the sound effects for as well. When i was compiling the sound file i decided to cut out the questions that i had asked the subject to allow the listner to try and guess what the interview was about, also this was to allow the user to interact more with the recording.

St Ive’s

This artefact was a first attempt at using Flash and Action Script 3, my assignment was to design a artefact aimed at children to learn them As i was going to St Ive’s. I chose to keep with the traditional version of the classic nursery rhyme. I found this quite a difficult task due to the difference between Action Script 2 & 3 and also my lack of knowledge of Flash. I tried to make the artefact as interactive as possible, i made all the characters and the scenes as colourful as possible, so to appeal more to children.

This piece of work earned me an B12
